Tuesday, September 7th

Before class today I got in a little "tiff" with my Abuelita. She was scolding me for not eating breakfast in the house and not fixing colocoa (hot chocolate) for myself in the morning. She swore that I was going to starve to death. I tried to explain that I took cookies to class and would eat them there instead everyday. She told me that that was a snack, in order for it to count for breakfast I MUST eat it in the house. I promised her I'd get up earlier the next day so I could eat breakfast before I went to school.

lunch!!
After school, I went straight home for lunch. The young woman who cleans our apartment twice a month was there. She was super sweet and kept complimenting me. It was rather flattering because I could hear her and my Abuelita talking about my awesomeness even after I went to my bedroom. Since the living room was pretty torn apart, I ate lunch in my bedroom. I had a large plate of rice (they cook their rice in olive oil with salt and garlic.. SO SO SO good!!! :-D), seasoned potatoes, chicken, a basket of french bread and water. This is a normal sized lunch, if anything it's a little smaller than most days.

Me and my chocolate paloma
At 5:30 we met at school for a cultural program. We went to the tourist building in Plaza de Colon to learn about the culture and different customs in Spain. It was quite possibly the most boring thing I've EVER sat through. I expected to learn about things such as, in Spain it's customary to refuse coffee or tea the first time you're offered, and only to accept after your host offers three times and insists that it is no problem. Instead, the presenter basically drew a map of Spain on the white board and drew boxes for museums. He talked a little about holidays, but it was all very basic information that I already knew. Thankfully we got a pretty sweet gift bag with a hot pink notebook and sticky notes (MY FAV!)

After the BORING lecture, Katy and I went to Sol to meet up with Sina and Antonia. While we were waiting for them, we went to this cute little bakery that was right in the plaza and bought chocolate palomas. It was basically this dry, flaky pastry with lots of chocolate frosting on it! SO good!! :)

When Sina and Antonia showed up, we walked around the side streets and found this little bar to have a drink in. Since there wasn't a ton of room on the patio and there weren't 4 seats together at the bar, we sat in the dinning area. After we were seated the waiter told us we had to order some food to sit there. So we got 2 chroquetes de jamon to please him (basically a mozzarella stick with ham in it).

Sina, me, Katy, and Antonia at school
After our little snack, we walked back to the metro to go home. We passed by one of our favorite stores that had a super sale going on, so Katy and I went in to look real quick. We each picked out something for our sisters for Christmas (I know it's a long ways off, but it was such a deal and I KNOW she'll love it!!) The store was absolutely packed and Katy had to get home for dinner, so I ended up waiting 25 or so minutes to pay for our presents! :) All in all, a very successful day!

  1. Jack rushed in to see the new "stories" and was thrilled...But not so thrilled with the KR getting lost at night story. Granted he did say "she was up later than me when Liz babysat!" Yea, that kid remembers EVERYTHING!

Love hearing about your travels and fun....Have some of that hot chocolate for me...If you find it in a can to bring home, BRING ME ONE...Liquid hot chocolate sounds right up my alley!
